A new chapter for Fillip Studios: we moved!

A new chapter for Fillip Studios: we moved!

We have moved into our new studio at Cleantech Park Arnhem! As we are settling in, we are noticing the place is already bringing us new impulses, inspiration, collaboration and wonder. Our plans with the place reflect our way of working and our mission for the future.

Let’s dive into our plans first
We will install an IX-lab to be able to explore, test and work with all kinds of techniques within the Embodied Immersive Experiences realm. It has already been in use during testing and our →mini playdates for the Thuis project. We are so happy to have the space to bring our ideas to life and immediately experience them together. In this place, we are able to put our inspiration and our collective thoughts together and immediately, right there in the same space, experiment with them. This allows us to stay in the cycle of being inspired, making and thinking. Doing all these at the same moment and with each other is already proving impactful and inspiring for the work we are creating.

Our new workshop is currently also functioning as storage for our Hear Here works (which just arrived back from their →exhibition in Kassel), as well as boxes to still unpack. But luckily, the workshop is also starting to come alive by realizing new works and doing testing. In our first week of being here, our new project One Size Fits None was tested in collaboration with affectlab. In the workshop, cross-pollination already took place: Team Physical collaborated with Team Visual to experiment with transparent materials, resulting in dreamy panels that are semi-transparent, rich in color and spatial by being slightly bent on the bottom - growing into the space.

One room that’s gone through a big upgrade is our audio room. From now on, we have a dedicated room to record and produce our audio, making big steps to achieve an even higher quality.

As we’re writing this, the final touches are still being added to our new place. Stairs to our meeting rooms, colors on the walls and felt plates surrounding our desks to gather all of our inspiration. We are sure the studio will gain even more character as we spend more time here, but we are already feeling very much at home / at work here. As Cleantech Park Arnhem says themselves: “Innovation and connection arise in a place where you love to be”.

How the new place fuels our mission and vice versa
Looking back to our previous place, Coehoornstraat 15, we’re surrounded with beautiful memories. Fillip Studios found its roots there and the team went through a doubling and tripling growth. Our first works were born at the Coehoorn in the form of ideas, becoming prototypes, becoming impactful works that are →still travelling the world 10 years later. All of these memories, we bring with us to our new place and we can’t wait to keep adding to them.

We position ourselves in a triangle of Narrative, Technology and Physical. Narrative is our role as storytellers, translating the complex into accessible. Technology is infused into the creation of wonder. Physical represents the tactility of the work as well as the role embodiment and senses play in an immersive experience. This triangle offers a frame, which allows us freedom. Freedom to dive very deep into concept or expertise. And freedom to continuously keep coming up with different forms of inviting wonder.

Because that is why we exist: creating impact through wonder. We do that by being inspired, attentive and courageous. And we do this by working in cross-pollination.

Cross-pollination is one of the main principles in the way we work. We’re developing a culture of cross-pollination within our multidisciplinary team. Not disciplines working alongside each other, but team members inspiring one another and meeting each other with their own unique perspective. One plus one is three. This new place will support this even more. There is a lot of room to do physical experiments, explore technical ideas and interaction, go completely digital or completely analogue or somewhere inbetween, or simply go for an inspiring walk around the Park.

Cleantech Park Arnhem is a place where several companies working on innovation and sustainability are housed. From small startups to productional companies, creative studios and educational institutions, all in the middle of historical, industrial premises. A place where we feel right at home. So many things are possible here, and we’re thrilled to see and experience what this new place will bring us.
