Arabidopsis Symphony by Fillip Studios exhibited in Anchorage Museum, Alaska (USA)
11 april 2024
The interactive project Arabidopsis Symphony by Arnhem-based design studio Fillip Studios will be on exhibition in Anchorage Museum, Alaska from April until August 2024. The project is also being presented at Anchorage Museum’s curated event NorthXNorth, in conjunction with Arctic Encounter Symposium until 12 April.
In Anchorage, visitors can discover the inner life of the plant Arabidopsis Thaliana via their own device. By combining augmented reality with an ever-changing musical composition, this installation shows us hidden processes from within the plants. By scanning the QR code, visitors walk through a field of human-sized plants and witness how local data influences the music the plants compose.
In close collaboration with Dutch Design Foundation and Dutch Culture USA, Arabidopsis Symphony was connected to the Anchorage Museum, where the events are held. During the event, connection, creativity, imagination and innovation across Alaska and the Northern regions are celebrated. “North x North 2024 consists of creative gatherings, tours, and conversations—as well as film screenings in collaboration with the Tromsø International Film Festival and the Anchorage International Film Festival and the annual Far North Fashion Show, hosted in the atrium of the Anchorage Museum”, states the organisation. Arabidopsis Symphony is part of the exhibition.
Fillip Studios’ co-founder Tom Kortbeek is travelling to Anchorage to join the eventful week. “We are honored to be part of the conversation about the possible futures and the potential of place, people, and planet. Different artists, stakeholders and governmental officials come together to experience these subjects in a special place – a far northern region, where nature behaves very uniquely – and we feel the presence of Arabidopsis Symphony creates brand new possibilities for us”, he states.
After the North x North event and Arctic Encounter Symposium, Arabidopsis Symphony will be exhibited in the Anchorage Museum until August 2024.
